Contour line sketches.

Andreas Pihlstrom

This is a piece by Andreas Pihlstrom looking at the visualization of audible frequency... However to me it looks like contours so its definitely relevant to my vis lang brief.

Stephen Walter

Really detailed and overly obsessive illustrations by Stephen Walter.

Cutting Edges.

The cover and a few spreads from a contemporary collage book, 'Cutting Edges' The first spread I think is particualrly relevant to my visual language brief as it uses the pages of a magazine to create what look like contours. This would also be a 3-dimensional piece...

More WAFA

A series of spreads from a collaborative collage book by WAFA, This is a work in progress but I think it could turn out really interesting. References to maps and contours also make it relevant to my visual language brief. I really like the collaborative element in this publication in that a huge number of designers and artists will contribute a very small amount into the book to create a finished article. This is something of a one off so it would most likely be seen digitally via creative blogs and will appeal to people already with knowledge of WAFAs work. Theres something about the feel of the front cover specifically that drew me to this book and I think it will have that effect on other too.

Wired UK

A few examples of a map style infographic created for Wired UK.
Although this is quite an interesting graphic and is relevant to my project I'm not really keen on this style of graphic.

WAFA... bear colony album art...

Some examples of some really interesting and abstract album art by WAFA collective. Really like some of the red over printed images. These i think are some really effective image driven designs, based strongly around collage as a lot of WAFA's work is. For an album they need to get something as striking and as relevant as possible to the band and I think although this is a work in progress there are some great designs. i think the ones with the red overprint have the most impact and would appeal most to the bands fans etc. These would be in a record shop amongst a lot of other covers so it is important that it is well designed.

Levi Van Veluw

This is a series of photographs of some really interesting work by the artist Levi Van Veluw. He has taken photographs of sculptures created of a head using veneer. The other images are of a model that he has turned into a landscape using modelling scenery. These are strange, yet quite intriguing as they seem to all have different qualities despite being what looks like the same model. This takes my initial idea of creating contour drawings of faces very literally and turns the person them self into a landscape.
