Levi Van Veluw

 

This is a series of photographs of some really interesting work by the artist Levi Van Veluw. He has taken photographs of sculptures created of a head using veneer. The other images are of a model that he has turned into a landscape using modelling scenery. These are strange, yet quite intriguing as they seem to all have different qualities despite being what looks like the same model. This takes my initial idea of creating contour drawings of faces very literally and turns the person them self into a landscape.

Yoshi Sodeoka

Here is a series of prints by the designer Yoshi Sodeoka, These caught my eye as initally I thought they had elements a little like contour lines within them. And looking at them closely as they are displayed on his website I failed to notice that there is a face in each one. I think this is really clever and relates to some of my initial ideas for the brief.

A blog that showcases redesigned magazine and comics covers.

 A few examples I chose from 'covered' that I thought were particularly nice. These are simply reworked comic book covers and although I don't usually give this kind of design much attention, there are some really great examples of cover redesigns that seem to focus their communication. These would be seen in theory by people buying comics, however in practice are only seen by people on the covered blog. Still a really nice concept.

Silk screen posters.

Here are a series of screen prints by Cardon design. I think these are really interesting however I think they are there really just to be aesthetically pleasing and have no other goals as posters.

This is a link to a really interesting website that looks at the redesign of poorly considered, self distributed posters and fliers. Below is the description given on the website of its mission.

CARDON COPY, TAKES THE VERNACULAR OF SELF-
